Update on Jaron

Thank you all for your prayers. I can't tell you how much it means to me to see that so many people care about little Jaron and are praying for him.

We met with the team of doctors this morning & they still don't have any answers yet as they are waiting on the labs to get back, but I will update on what has happened so far. Yesterday morning, Jaron woke up with a weird type of cry I had never heard before. He was acting lethargic & I couldn't get him to eat all morning. So we took him in to see the doctor. We had just been there the day before for his 2-week checkup & everything had been fine.

While the doctor was checking on different things, she became concerned about his breathing pattern and immediately sent Jaron & I to Riverbend Hospital in an ambulance and met us there. They spent the next several hours trying over & over to hook him up to an IV to get some fluids in him because at this point, it had been about 14 hours since he had eaten so he was getting really dehydrated.

During this time, Jaron was having periods where he would stop breathing (apnea), which was so scary to watch. We didn't know what to expect & if he would even make it through. The doctor said the apnea was a sign he was fighting some type of an infection, but they didn't know what type. They took samples of his blood, urine, and spinal fluid so they could run some tests, and started him on antibiotics.

Then the doctor hooked Jaron up to the ventilator & we were life-flighted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland where they could continue to do more tests and x-rays and keep him on the ventilator while they waited for the results to come back, which usually takes at least 48 hours.

Jaron is on several different antibiotics to treat various types of infections & as the test results come back & they're able to eliminate certain ones as the cause, they will take him off the antibiotics, one by one. The antibiotics are also helping his breathing get better & they are hoping to be able to take him off the ventilator in the next couple of days.

David & I stayed with Jaron at the hospital last night, getting very little sleep, but will stay tonight with our family at my aunt & uncle's house here in Portland. Jaron is stable right now, which we are so thankful for, and they are just waiting on the lab results at this point to find out what the cause was. We are really praying that it is something minor and fixable. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
